Volunteering at your child's school has been statistically proven (by the U.S. government's National Center for Educational Statistics) to encourage children to achieve higher grades and greater motivation to learn and to make long-lasting social connections. Having a parent who spends some time at school makes a child feel important, better connected, more secure and ultimately leads to more investment on the part of young learners. Many parenting books advising parents on how to help their children excel in school gives the best example to get involved in school activities.
