Summer 2010

Wow! Hard to believe that we are nearly done. The Picnic in the Parking Lot was only yesterday.

We have had another successful year that saw new changes and new faces:

First of all, the opening of Tiny Wings! How delightful to watch 3 and 4 year olds walking down the hallways with joy in their hearts and a skip in their step. It is impossible to not smile as you watch them walk by.

  • Jim Coonan has been an invaluable asset as he worked in the computer lab with your children who learned about spreadsheets and did PowerPoint presentations. Linda Kabut has been creative in her art classes with the primary students. Mary Ellen Read came to us in December to be our new PreK teacher and carried on Mrs. Graves tradition of providing a nurturing learning environment.

  • This year also saw the opening of the Middle School Academy, a creative program taught by Mrs. O’Donnell and Mrs. Flansburg, who excelled in their use of computers. New uniforms were worn and electives were taken – and a secondary experience was available to our students. While we will miss Mrs. Flansburg in the MSA, she will bring her expertise to our intermediate students as we look to bring MSA to grades 5 and 6 in some small way.

As always we thank the community that made our job a little easier: the room mothers who worked diligently all year when called upon; the lunch monitors who provided coverage each and every day; Mrs. Neal, our Library volunteer who made our new library area welcoming and inviting for all; Father Steve and Fr. Mike for their monthly liturgies that inspired us; the parents who chaperoned on field trips; the parents who came in on weekends in the fall to set up a new Pre-K playground, when we found that we could not use the ‘big’ one; the parents who shared their occupations with eager pre-schoolers; and parents who read to classes, sang songs, planted flowers or attended school programs. Corporations which donated to our Reading Counts computer program include: Wal-Mart, Milford Federal Savings & Loan, and the Southbridge Credit Union; and Uniplay was extremely helpful with our new Pre-K playground. We are grateful to you all for what you do to make OLV such a wonderful place. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
