Health News

If your child is ill (or sent home from school ill), please refrain from sending him/her back to school using the following guidleines for common communicable diseases:

Vomiting-Keep your child home until he/she is symptom free and well hydrated for a minimum of 24 hours.

Conjunctivitus/Pink Eye-Keep your child home until he/she has been on medication for 24 hours.

Diarrhea-Keep your child home until he/she is symptom free and well hydrated for 24 hours.

Fever and Flu-Keep your child home until he/she is symtpom free for 24 hours. If your child has a fever in the evening, but is without a fever in the morning, please refrain from sending them to school.

Lice-Keep your child home until he/she has been treated and live lice and nits are removed.

Scabies-Keep your child home until he/she has been treated.

Strep Throat/Scarlet Fever-Keep your child home until he/she is fever free and has been on medication for 24 hours.

Physical Examinations-Students need to present to the school nurse documentation of a physical examination prior to first school entry and at intervals of every three to four years thereafter.Any student wanting to participate in sports must have a yearly physical examination on file in the health office prior to the start of the season. Please check with the school nurse to make sure your child is in compliance.

SCOLIOSIS SCREENINGS WILL TAKE PLACE MONDAY FEBRUARY 13, 2012 for students in grades 5-8. 

Thanks to the generosity of the Parents Guild, OLV now has its own vision and hearing screening equipment! Screenings for vision, hearing, posture and BMI will take place for different grade levels over the next few months. You may refuse these screenings by submitting your refusal in writing.

Please consider applying bug repellent on your child prior to his or her arrival to school if you are concerned about insect bites occuring during outdoor activites.

Documentation of vaccines is required by the Department of Public Health. These must be on file in the health office unless there is religious or medical exemption.  Any claim of religious or medical exemption must be submitted in writing to the health office.

By Age Two

3 doses of Hep B, 4 doses of DTaP/DPT,  3 doses of Polio,  3 or more doses of Hib,  1 dose of MMR,  1 dose of Varicella

By Kindergarten                       

3 doses of Hep B,  5 doses of DTaP/DTP,  4 doses of Polio,  2 doses MMR,  2 doses Varicella      

By 7th Grade             

3 doses of Hep B, 1 booster dose of Td or Tdap, 3 doses of Polio, 2 doses of MMR, 2 doses of Varicella
