Grade 4 News

Dear Parents of  2017-2018 Fourth-Grade Students,

Welcome to a new school year!!!  Just a reminder that lunch envelopes will be going home on Wednesday each week and should be returned by Friday in order to purchase lunch for the following week!

This week students received a letter about Google Classroom.  This is where upcoming quizzes, tests, and projects will be posted. Go to classroom.google.com   The class code is sjh3n3t.  Fourth-grade usernames follow the same pattern as it appears on Edge (no capitals or spaces) followed by @olvuxbridge.com

Ex:  johnsmith@olvuxbridge.com  Once the site is accessed, change the assigned given password to smilingdog4

Parents will be able to visit this site to view upcoming assignments and announcements using the student's log in.  This site will take the place of the OLV calendar which listed all different grades' upcoming assignments on the monthly calendars.

Sincerely,

Mrs.  Hayes

The uniform policy will be strictly enforced this year. Please refer to the OLV School Handbook for appropriate dress code and uniform attire.  Please note socks and shoes are part of the OLV uniform!  Sneakers are only allowed to be worn with gym uniforms or shorts!  Shoes should be worn with the school uniform.  Girls are not allowed to wear nail polish to school.

Lunch envelopes go home on Wednesdays for the upcoming week.  Lunch money and the envelopes need to be returned on Friday mornings in order to secure lunches for the next week.

The school day begins at 8:40 a.m.; students arriving after this time will be marked tardy.  Academic classes start promptly after attendance is taken so it is very important that students get to school on time.  Children will be dismissed from the building at 2:50 p.m.; they will line up in the same area they do in the morning before entering school for the day.  They will not be allowed to cross the parking lot by themselves.  Parents should wait for their child to be dismissed by the classroom teacher in the tarred area between the playground fence and basketball hoop.  At 3:00 p.m., bus riders will be dismissed to the teacher on bus duty that day; other children will be sent to After School Care where they will be charged a fee.

Parent volunteers and chaperones must have a current CORI form on file in the office and attend a one-time 2hr. Safe Environment Training program.  Please contact Ms. Anderson in the OLV office for further details.  The CORI form can be found underneath "Resources" on the OLV webpage.  All volunteers within the school or chaperoning must now be fingerprinted as well!  IdentoGo Centers are operated by MorphoTrust USA.  Please refer to the following website http://www.identogo.com/FP/Massachusetts.aspx .  There is a center in Milford, MA. The 8 digit organizational code for the Worcester Diocese is 40000500.  You'll need this code to schedule your appointment for fingerprinting!

Each student will be sent home with the class activation code and information on how to place book orders online via Scholastic Book Clubs.

On the first day of school, students will receive their usernames and passwords for Pearson online textbooks on a handout in their homework folders.  * Please see sidebar on this page labeled "Textbooks."  When using Pearson Success Net, be sure to turn off your pop-up blocker program.  SuccessNet uses pop-ups so your computer must allow them.  Turn off Pop-Up Blocker from the Tools Menu in your browser.

Parents, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through the school's e mail grade4@ourladyofthevalleyregional.com or by sending a note to school with your child.  I will contact you as soon as possible.  I look forward to not only teaching your children but learning from them as well!

Sincerely,

Sharon Hayes

Announcements

Fourth-Grade Advent Service Project: Thank you to my fourth-grade class and their families! The fourth graders will be collecting personal hygiene travel-size items to donate to a non profit organization. The Visitation House in Worcester on Endicott Street is an all female shelter. The Visitation House opened its doors in 2005 and is grounded in the Gospel of the Catholic Church; it shelters, nourishes, and offers hope for women facing crisis pregnancies. The women stay at the Visitation House awaiting the birth of their children. I got word today from one of the women who is involved in this organization that they would love to receive the donations. If anyone wants to donate small baby books, pacifiers, baby socks, onesies, bibs, or anything baby-related that we can add to the decorated tube socks, that would be wonderful! We will be putting the socks and inspirational cards together during the week of December 18.

Please see "Important Links" at the bottom of this page for Grade 4 Weekly Spelling Words.

Textbooks online: Click on the link for textbooks on this page's sidebar, log in with the user name and password in your child's take home folder, and you should be able to access the Math, Reading, and Social Studies textbooks!

Nancy Larson Science is  online.  The website is included with the links at the bottom left side of this page.

            Assignments

Students are expected to hand in completed classwork and homework assignments independently and on time.  Late assignments (with the exclusion of the weekly spelling word sort or activity which is due every Tuesday) will be deducted 10 points for each day they are late.  It's important that students are organized and take responsibility for completed work.

Please see the sidebar entitled "For Mrs. Hayes's Students" for information about academics; there will be a new mode of communication regarding upcoming weekly assignments, quizzes, and tests on Google Classroom. In the future, I will be posting upcoming assignments on the Google Classroom calendar instead of my subpage.
