I will be finishing assessments. If you would like to schedule a conference, times will be made available.
We will be starting some Backpack Take-Home Bags. Watch for some fun and educational activities in Numeration, Literature, Reading Readiness and Science!
What your child should bring to school:
Backpack – inside the backpack should be a snack, lunch, extra water bottle and a folder (which we will provide). If your child likes to rest with a stuffed animal, or blanket, you may send that along, we just ask that it fits inside the backpack. Children do not need to bring their own school supplies, and we ask that you do not send in toys from home, they sometimes get misplaced, and we do have many toys to play with!
Complete change of clothes- All children in this program must be completely potty-trained, however, we completely understand that accidents can still happen. The change of clothes comes in handy for spills also!! We will keep this set of clothes in your child’s cubby and will send home any soiled clothes in a plastic bag to be replaced on your child’s next school day.
Mat Cover – We have mats for each child for rest-time. Please send in a cover (crib sheets fit perfectly). We send these covers home periodically to be cleaned. If you prefer to take it home at the end of each week, just let us know!
Snack - Please send a healthy snack each day along with a drink in a bag separate from the lunch box. We recommend fruit, veggies, yogurt, cheese, crackers…these healthy choices help keep children focused and energized for their busy school day!
Lunch – We eat lunch in our classroom, not in the cafeteria. We have found that many preschoolers simply prefer the comfort of their food from home! Also very often, there has been confusion as to which day a lunch was ordered for a child resulting in children sometimes not having a lunch available for them. To save that from happening, we do suggest sending lunch from home. If however, you prefer to buy a school lunch, the menu will be posted on the school website. We recommend you print that out and circle the days you are buying to help keep track of which days to send a lunch for your child. Also, discuss the menu with your child to see if the food is a choice they would like! We will send a lunch envelope home on Mondays which must be returned by Friday to order lunch for the following week.
OTHER INFORMATION!!!
Volunteering – We love volunteers!!! We encourage you to become part of the classroom and get involved in your child’s education. I will be sending home an info sheet on ways to volunteer shortly. In order to be able to come into the classroom, all volunteers are required to complete a CORI form and attend a one-time 2hr safe environment training. If you are unable to assist in the classroom, we have a wish list of items to donate throughout the year. We can never have too many glue sticks and tissues!! This list will be posted in the classroom, feel free to choose an item to send in, we are always thankful for donations!
Scholastic Book Orders – Each month we will sending home book orders for you to look through. Reading is an important part of learning and such a fun way to spend special time with your child. Orders can be placed on-line, or by check. Each time you place an order on-line the classroom receives a free book. We always appreciate you participating in this program.
Curriculum – Once again this year we are so fortunate to be using a pre-k curriculum entitled, Opening the World of Learning (OWL). Through this curriculum your children will be working towards attaining these goals:
Social and Emotional Development
Language and Communication Skills
Emergent Literacy - Reading and Writing
Math and Science
Social Studies
Art and Music
Technology
Physical Development
We will also incorporate Religion lessons each week.
There will be 3 assessments done throughout the school year enabling us to evaluate your child’s progress.
Please know that we are always available to address any questions or concerns you may have. You can e-mail me or send a note in your child's backpack at anytime I will get back to you as soon as possible.
