SPELLING 4:
- Spelling words will be introduced on Friday. You will find the words in the right column of the web page. You may print a copy of the words for your child simply by clicking on the printer icon located at the bottom of the column.
- A pre-test should be given to the student by a parent or adult.
- Words spelled incorrectly should be corrected in red pen.
- Any words misspelled should be written five times each on a separate piece of paper in standard blue or black ink. (Long, yellow, lined paper will be distributed in class on Friday for the 5 times each.)
- The signed pre-test and the five times each must be handed in by TUESDAY . Students may hand it in on Monday.
- The final test will be given on THURSDAY.
- There may be other spelling assignments/activities during the week.

READING COUNTS
The purpose of the Reading Counts Program is to encourage students to practice reading. As with any activity, practice is needed for improvement. The program is to be used as a supplement to the classroom reading program. There are three basic steps the student needs to do for successful participation in the Reading Counts program.
1. The child chooses a book to read that is part of the Reading Counts program and is at the child's independent reading level.
2. The student reads the book for comprehension (understanding of the story).
3. The child takes a computerized quiz on 10 comprehension questions, hoping to score at least 7 out of 10.
If a child gets less than 7 correct, he/she may retake the quiz up to two more times.
Please realize that the Reading Counts Program is new to all of us, including teachers! My goal is to increase the students' reading comprehension. Read! Read! Read!
I have many Reading Counts books in our classroom that the students may read and take a test anytime.

How to study for a Science test:
A study guide will be sent home a week before the test. It will have all the material the student will needs to know for the test. There may be, however, questions on the test in which the student must apply the skillls learned. These types of questions have been discussed in class.
Good news!!!! The students can now access their science text book on-line! They have the web address and also have a user name and password. Students should explore the "Take It To the Net" where there are activities they can try which will reinforce what is being taught in school. They no longer need to take home their text book, the entire book is on-line.

Grade 6 students MUST:
Keep practicing basic skills! Review addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, fractions and decimals!
It is most important that students review on a daily basis. Students should also review the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, fractions and decimals which we cover the first half of the year. To be successful in Math, the students MUST practice and review on a regular basis, not just before the test!
