Well, testing is over and everyone did an excellent job! I am proud of all of them! Their behavior during testing was exemplary. Now that testing is done we will get back on track in Reading. We started our new story today called, “Dear Mr. Blueberry”. It is a great time for this story as we are starting to work on our pen pal letters next week. The grammar focus this week will be on adjectives and contractions. The applied phonics focus will be on the vowel digraphs oo and ue for words such as noontime and blue. We will have our spelling and reading test on Monday to get back into our regular schedule.
In Mathematics we are starting a new chapter on money and time. I will visit the geometry chapter towards the end of the year. We are learning the more difficult concepts first to make sure everyone has a strong foundation before the end of the year. We will be having a math quiz this Wednesday on money to include, pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and half dollars.
In Science we are continuing our work on the Animal Research Project. We are in part II of the outline. We will finish the outline this week and next week. We will then begin putting the outline into a report.
In Religion, we are finishing Chapter 15, “God Gives Us the Eucharist”. This chapter helps students understand how the Mass is the Celebration of the Eucharist. Students have also been learning about The Last Supper and Passover. We have been revisiting the meaning of Lent and how we are preparing ourselves during the solemn time through personal sacrifice and spiritual growth. We will have a chapter review on Tuesday and a Religion test on Wednesday. We will also go over to the church at 1:00 pm on Wednesday to watch the Stations of the Cross. This will begin our study of the Stations of the Cross leading us up to The Three Days.
In Social Studies we have finished our study of George Washington as our first president. Students have learned the difference between a king and a president as well as the unique and inspiring move of our first president and others to build a government based upon the people not the elite.
In Penmanship we continue to practice letter formation and connecting letters together. Students are expected to write their name in cursive on all papers including homework. They will start getting assigned some things that must be done in cursive. If it is homework, I will have them specify this in their assignment book.
**Thank you to everyone who has sent in the money for the field trip. If you have not yet done so, please send it in by this Friday. Thank you for your support with this venture.
As always, if there are any questions or concerns, feel free to write me a note or send me an email.
