HOMEWORK: Each week the School-Home Connection is reading homework. Please always do the WORDS, WORDS, WORDS section and have your child write sentences on the back of the paper with the vocabulary words. It is very important to help your child edit their sentences for capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and spacing when they write them.

MATH:
We are beginning Chapter 8, Money and Time. In this chapter the children will:
-recognize the value of a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar
-count on with pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to find the value of
a group of coins
-tell and write time to the hour and half hour
-solve problems by reading a schedule or through logical reasoning
Please continue to work on addition and subtracion facts with sums and differences to 12. Daily flashcard practice is very important. That should be part of your child's homework each day. Many of the children are still struggling with these facts. I am now giving timed fact tests.
RELIGION:
Chapter 22 - Jesus Gives Us the Eucharist
The children will learn:
-Jesus shared a special meal with his followers.
-We celebrate what Jesus said and did at the Last Supper.
-We celebrate the sacrament of the Eucharist.
-We join with our parish for the celebration of Mass

SCIENCE:
Our third unit: Matter
In this chapter the children will learn that everything we see is matter. Matter has properties that can be seen and measured. Properties include size, weight, shape, color, and temperature. Properties determine what uses matter may or may not have.

Our topic this week is Maps. We will learn about the parts and purposes of maps. We will also learn how physical environments in other places are similar to and different from our own environment.
